The Road to Program/Project Management (PM)

For as long as I am able to remember myself. (My earliest life memories) I recall being the family Global Positioning System (GPS) before GPS was a thing. I recognized early on that I only needed to go to a location once and I always knew how to get back home; and/or how to get back to that location if necessary.

I was the natural family coordinator for going places directionally, (with the mall turning to a favorite spot early on) that then led to being the family cookout and event coordinator. I additionally, remember having to be the lead big red tricycle guy in pre-school and pre-k starting school at the tender young age of 3 years of age; to leading and coordinating our daily play time. In elementary school I remember being the class monitor and safety patrol captain; again, the consistent theme, being the responsible coordinator.

Why am I sharing this with you all? It is simple I am building the case that my affinity for and to Program/Project Management is a God-given gift that aligns with my professional life passion of Consulting.

Having an affinity of all things going smoothly and having a plan for what is to happen, when and why. As I truly reflect, I have been doing this my entire life.

Plan then Do is at the core of the Aaron R. Plush certified method of Program/Project Management. In my first true role of being a Program/Project Manager (PM) with Staff Management, I realized that I had found my professional passion. Yes, I had previously done the PM function; never by title until this role that was 100% travel. The role allowed me to implement the best-in-class Contingent Labor Programs around the globe. Many lessons learned in the Netherlands, the UK, Belgium and many other parts of the world.

What I also now know in hindsight is that we were defining the future of work in real time. I was working on the road 100% with no home base. Going to client sites, while having the ability to do hybrid and remote work as a mixture, to maintain my own sanity and that of the team. Every 3 weeks the company would pay for family members to come visit us or we went home or wherever we desired for 3 to 5 days: with all kinds of perks and benefits for the sacrifice of being a 100% travel employee. Wow, thinking back I was truly living the life.

Well to reel this back in, Program/Project Management is at the core of who I am as a Consultant… I look forward to sharing more in weeks to come.
